Date of Birth: 1919
Date Started at LFC: 1939
Number of Appearances: 277
Position: Midfielder
Goals Scored: 12
Previous Clubs Bishop Auckland FC

Information:

Paisley joined Liverpool FC at 20 years of age for a ?10 signing-on fee and a weekly wage o ?5.  He played until Liverpool’s relegation in 1954.  Paisley took over from Bill Shankly as manager in 1974.

He retired in 1983, and he was elected to the board of directors.  When Kenny Dalglish was made manager of the reds, Bob helped him learn the ropes.

My Dad says that he remembers Bob Paisley (as a manager not a player :) ) and he says he was really really good.

Kevin Keegan

Date of Birth: 1951
Date Started at LFC: 1971
Number of Appearances: 323
Position: Striker
Goals Scored: 100
Previous Clubs Scunthorpe

Information:

Kevin Keegan had lots of hair – seriously lots of hair!!  He was also a great player.  I never saw him play, but I have seen clips of him playing for Liverpool and England, and he looked great!

Bill Shankley paid ?35,000 for him – a bargain, if you ask me!  Shankley wanted him to be a midfielder, but he was so good in pre-season training that he decided to put Keegan up front with Toshack.  That was a great idea, because Keegan scored in just 12 minutes in his first game!

Keegan also got 63 caps for England.  In 1977 he left Liverpool and went to Hamburg for ?350,000.  In 1999 he was made the England Manager (maybe that’s why he got his hair cut ;-) )

Ian Rush

Date of Birth: 1961
Date Started at LFC: 1980
Number of Appearances: 658
Position: Striker
Goals Scored: 346
Previous Clubs Chester

Information:

Ian Rush was one of the deadliest strikers in football history.  He became one of Britain’s most expensive teenagers when Bob Paisley paid ?300,000 to sign him from Chester in 1980.

While he was at Liverpool he got five Championship medals, one European cup and was awarded the MBE.  In 1984 he was double Footballer of the Year.

He was also captain of Wales, and he scored a record 28 goals in 73 games for them (couldn’t they do with him now ;-) ).  He joined Leeds in 1996 and then played for Newcastle, Wrexham and Sydney Olympic.

Alan Hansen

imageCurrent or Legend? Legend
Date of Birth: 1955
Date Started at LFC: 1977
Number of Appearances: 616
Position: Defender
Goals Scored: 14
Previous Clubs Partick Thistle

Information:

I never saw Alan Hansen play football, but my Dad did, and he said he was ace.  Hansen was a defender and Dad said that he was a really good one, but also quite a scary one.  He was also good at scoring goals with headers because he was so tall.

He was really brave.  He has got a big scar on his forehead and my Dad said that he got that playing football for Liverpool, but he was so brave that he just had it bandaged up and carried on playing.  He was captain in 1986 when the Reds did an FA Cup and league double!  He also played for Scotland, but he got injured and had to retire from football in 1991.

These days he talks about football with Gary Lineker and his mate from Liverpool, Mark Lawrenson on Match of the Day

Kenny Dalglish

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

imageCurrent or Legend? Absolute Legend!!
Date of Birth: 1951
Date Started at LFC: 1977
Number of Appearances: 496
Position: Striker
Goals Scored: 168
Previous Clubs: Celtic

Information:

Kenny Dalglish was called King Kenny because he was so good.  My Dad says that he has never seen anyone turn with the ball quite like Dalglish, and he was always able to make some magic.

Bob Paisley brought him to Anfield from Celtic for ?440,000 in August 1977, and he picked up where Kevin Keegan left off (Keegan had gone to Hamburg just before Kenny came to Liverpool)

He was a favourite of all the fans, and when he teamed up with Ian Rush, they were a deadly pair.  In 1985 he was asked to become Liverpool’s first ever player manager.  He was a very successful manager, winning the league in 1990, but he surprised everyone in 1991 when he resigned.

King Kenny will always be remembered as a true Liverpool hero.

Pepe Reina

Date of Birth: 1982
Date Started at LFC: 2005
Number of Appearances: 88
Position: Goalkeeper
Goals Scored: 0
Previous Clubs Barcelona, Villarreal

Information:

Pepe Reina is a good goalkeeper.  Sometimes he has dodgy moment, and my Dad says he reminds him of Bruce Grobbelar – either a nightmare or totally brilliant.  Sometimes he makes bad mistakes, but usually he makes some amazing saves – just like his penalty saves in the F A Cup final against West Ham.

Pepe has kept a lot of clean sheets, and he is a big reason why Liverpool have done so well at Anfield this season.  I like Pepe Reina a lot, and if I was a goalkeeper I would want to be like him.

Pepe has also caught the eye of the Spanish team and has been called up to the squad recently.

Steven Gerrard

imageCurrent or Legend? Current Squad
Date of Birth: 30 May 1980
Date Started at LFC: 1998
Number of Appearances: 363
Position: Midfielder
Goals Scored: 69
Previous Clubs Trainee

Information:

Stevie G is my favourite player ever.  He is just the greatest.  I love the way he plays – he is always running and he tackles like he means it.  He has to be the best passer of the ball and he scores some amazing goals.  I’d love to meet him one day, and get him to show me a few of his tricks.

He is captain of Liverpool, and has been with the reds since he was 8 years old (wouldn’t that be cool!).  He said that his proudest moment was lifting the European Cup for Liverpool in 2005.

Stevie has always supported Liverpool, and he said that being made captain was a dream come true.  As well as the European Cup he has won FA Cup, UEFA Cup and League Cup medals with Liverpool – all he is missing is the Premiership.  In 2006 he was voted PFA Player of the Year – quite right, too!! :)

Sami Hyypia

Friday, December 29th, 2006

imageCurrent or Legend? Current Squad
Date of Birth: 7 October 1973
Date Started at LFC: 2000
Number of Appearances: 391
Position: Defender
Goals Scored: 26
Previous Clubs Pallo-Peikot, KuMu, MyPa Anjalankoski, Willem II

Information:

Sami Hyypia plays centre half and is from Finland.  Lots of people think he is one of the best centre-halves in Europe, and I think I would agree.  He is strong, great at headers and always seems to know where the ball is going to go.  He is a big favourite with the Kop.

Sami started playing with a club called MyPa Anjalankoski, and he helped them win the Finnish Cup in 1992. He made his international debut for Finland against Tunisia.  In 1995 he was spotted and signed by Willem II from Holland.

After Liverpool sold Fowler and Redknapp, Sami was made captain by Gerard Houllier in April 2002 until Steven Gerrard took over October 2003.

Jamie Carragher

imageCurrent or Legend? Current Squad
Date of Birth: 28 January 1978
Date Started at LFC: 1996
Number of Appearances: 444
Position: Defender
Goals Scored: 4
Previous Clubs Trainee

Information:

If there’s one player you can guarantee will give you 100 per cent every game it’s Jamie Carragher – he is ace.

He signed as a professional in October 1996 and played his first game in the second leg of the Coca Cola Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough.  Three months later he played his first premiership game for Liverpool and celebrated it by scoring with a header at the Kop end against Aston Villa.  How cool is that!! :)

He is one of my favourite players because he really wants to win, and he always plays hard but fair.  My Dad says he would have Carragher in any team he ever picked, and I would, too,

Peter Crouch

Friday, December 29th, 2006

imageCurrent or Legend? Current Squad
Date of Birth: 30 January 1981
Date Started at LFC: 2005
Number of Appearances: 74
Position: Striker
Goals Scored: 22
Previous Clubs Tottenham, QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich, Southampton

Information:

Peter Crouch is tall, very very tall.  In fact, I wonder if he could be the tallest player in the world ;-) He plays centre-forward for Liverpool and England, and scores quite a lot of goals.

Rafa signed him from Southampton in 2005, and he is a first team regular.  He is pretty skillful, but I wish sometimes that he would try harder to win the ball.  My Dad gets very cross sometimes because he doesn’t seem to like to fight for the ball, and he falls over a lot.  But he does have a habit of scoring goals, and that is a good thing, whatever my Dad says :)
